The three letter word L-E-D has become a part of our day to day lives. Light Emitting Diodes, or better known as LEDs, have started being preferred over the conventional incandescent lamps.

What are LEDs?

LEDS are a digital source of light. The science behind it is known as electroluminescence where by photons are emitted by the energy rich electrons. However, the key components making LEDs the prime alternative over the energy hungry, fragile light sources we all grew up with are its longevity, low maintenance cost, energy efficiency and robustness.  In the early years its cost restricted its mass usage; however, over time its refined manufacturing made it an attainable substitute to Edison’s invention and has become widely used  in modern televisions, traffic lights, headlights, torches etc.

Saving Pennies with LEDs

Either for your business or you home, the marginal hike in price in comparison to its native competitors for LED bulbs is well worth while. For example, an LED bulb will pay for itself within two years owing to its energy saving characteristic.

Not only this, LED bulbs have long life spans ranging from 30,000 to 50,000 hours thus, saving a lot of money. In fact, not much heat, infrared or ultraviolet rays are emitted thereby reducing the job of any air conditioners.

Choosing the Best LEDs

Longevity and efficiency are the major components what one looks for when planning to buy a LED Light. To ensure the above, the buyer must ensure a minimum of 85% CRI i.e. colour rendering index, responsible for producing accurate colour of resources in comparison to other sources of light. Next important point to consider is ensuring the LED doesn’t emit more than required or permissible amount of heat. It’s often that the customers are bluffed with its fault working span as 80,000 hours etc. however the above just means the LED chips have reached 50 percentage efficiency.

Thus, ensuring the entire scenario mentioned, one can easily save a lot of energy as well as his/her money. With the above points as to what all points should be considered while buying an LED, one can make a smart and right choice.
